Joining the VGCC Community Band
- Membership is open to students and adult community members.
- Students may take the course for credit.
- There is no membership fee to be in the band.
- Band members have a wide range of abilities and experience and come from our four-county service area as well as beyond; some of our members are from Virginia.
About the Band
The Vance-Granville Band meets every Monday night from 7–8:30 PM for rehearsal in the Civic Center Building (Bldg. 9) on VGCC’s Main Campus in Henderson.
The band plays formal concerts every year in May and December at McGregor Hall in downtown Henderson. Additionally, the band plays for VGCC graduation as well as various community events as requested. All performances of the VGCC band are free to the public.
The literature of the band program consists of traditional band music including marches, waltzes, Broadway medleys, classical transcriptions and original band works representing a variety of musical time periods.
Meet The Director
Brian D. Miller is the Director of the VGCC Band as well as an adjunct instructor of music for VGCC. A graduate of UNC and ECU, he holds a Masters degree in Music Education and has taught band in our area for thirty years; the first twenty years of his career, Brian was the band director for Louisburg High School and is currently band director and assistant administrator for the Crosscreek Charter School in Louisburg. He is also the longtime organist at the Louisburg Baptist Church and also plays the organ for the evening services at the North Henderson Baptist Church in Henderson.
